Description
Frances
James (Fran Palmer) is a vocal trainer based in Exeter
and London. The styles she teaches in modern music are
pop, rock, jazz, R & B and musical theatre, plus any
other variation in contemporary styles. Students of all
standards are welcome. No matter what level, professional
or true beginner, improvement is inevitable.
Classes
help those who lack confidence and provide stimulus and
challenge to the more advanced. Active within the field
of voice research, Frances also works with damaged voices.
As Vocal Consultant to the Exeter and Torquay Speech & Language
Therapy units she can give advice on vocal health
and self management for vocal abuse singing styles.
A
seasoned musician, Frances is also a well-respected performer, which
ensures she is able to maintain her stagecraft and advise on how to
handle the music industry. Amongst many academic contributions to the
voice world she was highly influential in the set-up of the Vocals
Department of the nationwide Academy of Music & Sound and still
acts as their Head of Vocals. She has written many courses, including
the Academy’s BTEC vocal courses. She also writes for the music
publication, Reverb, educating its readers on vocal health and top
techniques.
Vocal
Tuition is a small independent business. Working with Frances are 2
other voice trainers, Stuart and Hannah. Following the methods of Vocal
Tuition, they are highly trained and great fun to work with. Whilst
Hannah’s background is primarily pop, blues & soul and Stuart’s
mainly jazz, blues & soul, they are both universal in the styles
they teach.
Frances
also works closely with her husband, Huw, who not only
gives tuition in piano and keyboards but also runs the
Vocal Tuition recording studio and provides technical
expertise in sound engineering, production and song writing
(Exeter only).
Whilst
Vocal Tuition is highly respected for and prides itself
on its contribution and commitment to the latest voice
research and vocal coaching, you can also come for lessons
in piano/keyboards, guitar and drums (Exeter only). For
