French Horn Teachers
The french horn is a unique sounding brass instrument, and the teachers located in this category of our site will help you play it to its best, clear, bright, and resounding tone. The french horn may seem compact but as many of the teachers will tell you it actually consists of roughly 12 feet of tubing wrapped into the coil.
The name french horn is actually an informal title, since the early 1970's the governing body has recommended that it is known simply as the horn, minus the french moniker. Many teachers still refer to it by its informal title and this is what it is most commonly known as in the UK.
Teachers will demonstrate how the instrument is tuned to either F or B-flat, and some play more advanced versions with an extra fourth valve. There also exist models with five valves that offer a wider range of tunings.
The french horn is one of the highest sounding brass instruments, and compared to other brass pieces it has a very different mouthpiece meaning that it plays rather differently to various other instruments, you will not find a very wide variety of teachers who teach multiple instruments along with the french horn. These teachers will be able to show you how to utilise the widest possible range of the instrument of almost four octaves.
