Double Bass Teachers
The double bass (or contrabass as it is sometimes known) is one of the most versatile string instruments, however it does not receive much recognition despite the larger number of teachers for this instrument and its use in a variety of genres.
Double bass teachers will often explain that the instrument is actually the largest and lowest pitched string instrument that is played by a bow. It features prominently in the symphony orchestra along with various string ensembles. Many double bass teachers are also skilled in other genres that the instrument is famous for such as jazz, blues, rock and roll, fusion music and even tango.
The double bass can be played either with a bow or by plucking the strings, and many teachers will demonstrate both of these techniques. Plucking is more commonly seen in jazz and blues music, whilst bowing is usually reserved for the symphony orchestra, however there is a large amount of cross over.
Many teachers will also describe how the double bass influenced the development of the electric-bass guitar, in fact it is not unusual to find guitar teachers who play the acoustic, bowed instrument and vice versa. Double bassists are in great demand for orchestras and bands everywhere and this versatile instrument can be taught by the double bass teachers listed on our website whether you are a raw recruit or confirmed addict.
