Cornet Teachers
The cornet is a much misunderstood brass instrument that is growing in popularity as the number of teachers in this section of our website demonstrate. The cornet (as many teachers will explain) is very similar to the trumpet and this is often the cause of the misconceptions about the instrument.
Unlike the trumpet it was however originally derived from a completely different instrument, in this case the post horn. The piston valves that are fitted to both the cornet and the trumpet were fitted to the former instrument many years prior to being fitted to the trumpet and this allowed for much more melodic playing as will be demonstrated by many teachers.
This meant that for over 100 years completely seperate pieces of music were written for the cornet and trumpet, even though teachers will now often teach both instruments side by side. In fact many trumpet teachers also now teach the cornet amongst other instruments, and the teachers are always keen for new students to take an interest in either instruments.
The cornet is a unique and intriguing instrument that often falls into the shadow of it's more common relative but due to its different timbre it deserve far more recognition that it currently receives.
