Description
My name is Carl Vaughan and I am a musician providing a range of musical services including tuition, session work and composition. I have over 30 years of playing experience of which over 20 have been in a professional capacity. I have been in various rock and folk bands and worked as a soloist on classical guitar. I am currently available to play in restaurants, at weddings and at other functions as a solo guitarist.

I am skilled in and can teach a wide range of instruments including Guitar (Acoustic \ Electric \ Classical), Bass guitar, Piano, Keyboard, Drums, Orchestral percussion, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Banjo, Mandolin and the Lute. My teaching services cover all aspects such as Theory, Composition, Song writing and GCSE coaching. My history in teaching includes roles at a number of schools and other teaching establishments - but I now operate from my Billericay studio, in Essex.

I took lessons myself starting in 1982 studying with Timothy Walker, John Mills and Carlos Bonell. I studied Lute with Robert Spencer. I was the founder Member of the Brentwood Guitar Society, eventually Chairman until closure in 1998. In all I have been teaching professionally since 1985.

My guitar tuition is from my very own tutor books. These are geared towards an all round approach applicable to today's guitarist.

The first book begins with simple chords and strumming patterns, progressing to reading music and playing single notes, building these into tunes and guitar solos based on the pentatonic scale. By the end of book 1 a student should be able to strum basic chord sequences using major and minor chords, and play a simple solo. Ear training and theory run parallel to the practical material.

Book 2 introduces barre chords and more complex scale formations, as well as introducing basic song writing. Techniques for both acoustic and electric guitar are covered, and the subject of music history is introduced, based around the appearance of popular music in the 1950's and its derivation from blues and folksong.

Book 3 is now finalised. Details will follow shortly.

On other instruments I currently use reputable tutor books obtainable from any good music shop, and supplement when required. I also teach to the Trinity Guildhall exam syllabus if required.
