Banjo Teachers

In this section of our website you will find a variety of banjo teachers to help you enjoy playing music. The banjo is a stringed instrument that was originally developed in the United States by enslaved Africans, the name is derived from the Kimbundu word "mbanza".

Teachers of this instrument will be able to demonstrate all forms of banjo, from the four and five string versions through to others with even more strings. Many guitar teachers also play this instrument so you will often find some that will be able to provide a broad curriculum covering a variety of instruments.

The banjo was first introduced into Britain in the 1840's by the Virginia Minstrels and it quickly became popular thanks to the efforts of teachers who began instructing people how to play it.

Banjo playing is easily identifiable thanks to the fast picking and strumming and the unique, metallic sound of the instrument, all of which experienced teachers will be able to help you recreate. The banjo itself is most commonly found being used to play a variety of country and bluegrass music, however teachers will often also be able to teach a variety of other uses including Celtic and minstrel inspired music amongst many other fusion genres.
